Catch the World Series on Flipboard
Inside Flipboard / October 24, 2012
It’s taken 109 years to get to this point but it’s finally here—the first-ever World Series between the San Francisco Giants and the Detroit Tigers.
Both teams have repeatedly appeared against others in the annual National vs. American League contest, of course. In fact, the Giants, the winningest professional team in North America, are hoping to repeat their 2010 champion season. It hasn’t gone so well for the Tigers, though, who last won the Series in 1984. They made it to the championship in 2008 but lost to the St. Louis Cardinals.
This should be a terrific first date. Detroit has (arguably) this season’s best hitter, Miguel Cabrera, behind the plate and this season’s best pitcher, Justin Verlander, at the mound. The Giants have a strong bullpen of their own, with the likes of Matt Cain, Madison Bumgarner and closer Sergio Romo. And who has been hotter than Marco Scutaro? No one.
